Day 9, Solid Great Lakes Protection Act, Premier McGuinty

Keeping local for this letter, I googled "Canada Environmental Campaign" to find some letter-worthy topics.

A slew appeared from Environmental Defence. One that immediately struck me was "Stand up for Our Great Lakes".  Intrigued, I read on.

Apparently, "The Great Lakes Protection Act is proposed legislation that, if passed, would help restore and protect the Great Lakes so they stay drinkable, swimmable, fishable, for us, and for future generations."

Yeah, I'd never heard of this legislation. So much for staying up-to-date.

Environmental Defence says: "... tell the government that we want the Act to be strong enough to protect the Great Lakes’ wild species and human inhabitants from current and future stresses. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stop polluting and to start restoring the source of drinking water for 80% of Ontarians. Help us make sure the Act is really great."


The Letter

Assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) Env Defence is okay with this, I've reused a lot of the text and ideas from their website petition.

To: Premier McGuinty

I agree with Environmental Defence that we should do more to protect the Great Lakes. I would like to summarize many of the main points from their petition as follows: 

The US is already benefiting by investing millions in creating jobs through restoration and conservation of the lakes. Let's revv things up to this level, and make the Great Lakes Protection Act strong: addressing upstream pollution, protecting remaining wetlands, and forward thinking enough to deal with the impacts of climate change and population growth.
